All banks I use have alternative contact methods such as "send code to email" or "call you with code," the latter works fine with a Skype Number. Some banks send regular SMS that are just like an SMS from a regular cell phone, and they work just fine. These short form SMS aren't identifiable (yet) in Skype SMS. use (apparently) computer generated "short form" replies when you, say, do a two factor authentication. If I call someone in the local, foreign country, I can set it up so that the local number appears to the recipient.) (And a very slick option: I have a local, foreign SIM in my phone, which I added to my Skype account profile. Yes, you can set up "Caller ID" so when you call, the recipient sees your US Skype Number. Skype Number is a fine service, especially for international traveller's.
